MLK DAY 2022

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"

-Martin Luther King, Jr.

We honor Dr. King's legacy through our rememberance and service to others and our community, both on MLK Day and throughout the year. All of us at Covenant House Pennsylvania thank those of you who have come together to serve and support us, especially as we navigate these challenging times.

In most years, service honoring Martin Luther King Day takes the form of in person volunteering, giving your time to attend to others in need. Unfortunately, the realities of this year mean that we can't safely offer in person volunteering opportunities. We hope that this will change in the near future and we thank you for your understanding.

Instead, as our staff continues their daily work serving youth dealing with homelessness, we are asking those who wish to support us to redirect their efforts this year. Financial donations are necessary to continue and expand our efforts and in kind donations and item donation drives provide crucial supplies for our youth at our shelter and in our transitional housing programs.

Please consider using your resources and time this year to organize a drive, buy from our wish lists, or donate funds to support our youth and the services we provide.

Thank you.

Donation Wish Lists

Shelter Wish List

When youth come to Covenant House, they are arriving from a variety of difficult situations. Our goal is to stabilize their situation and meet their immediate needs, which can include food, shelter, clothing, health care, etc., as we work with them toward longer term stability. Our Shelter Wish List includes items that we most commonly need for these youth.

Outreach Wish List

Our Outreach Team goes out into neighborhoods, parks and other places where youth facing homelessness seek refuge to offer them food and counseling in order to build trust and a relationship that will encourage them to come to Covenant House. The Outreach Wish List is made up of mainly food items that are most desperately needed by youth in these situations.

Rights of Passage (Transitional Housing) Wish List

Our transitional living programs, often referred to as “Rights of Passage” or ROP, are where youth take their boldest steps toward independence. Youth live in ROP for up to 18 months, while they build basic life skills and financial literacy, participate in educational and vocational programs, seek employment with long-term advancement and career prospects, and work toward moving into their own safe and stable housing. The ROP Wish List contains items that youth need most when moving into their very own apartment.
