On September 29, 2016, National Coffee Day, McDonald’s Restaurants of the Greater Philadelphia Region pledged to donate 100 percent of all McCafe drip coffee proceeds to Covenant House Pennsylvania. To say that the event was a success would be an understatement. On that day, just over $20,000 was raised to support the vital work done by Covenant House Pennsylvania.

On January 23, 2017, our supporters from McDonald’s came to our shelter in Germantown for the official check presentation. Jeorge Salvat, regional Vice President for McDonald’s, hoped the relationship would progress beyond this very generous gift. “We have an opportunity to provide for them an outreach, based on our Archway’s to Opportunity program, where the kids can also as their working at McDonald’s, get their online high school degree and also have scholarships available to them to attend college.” John Ducoff, our Executive Director, added “That’s the beginning of the journey, because our work is about providing them opportunities, opportunities to transform their lives.”

One of our youth, Anthony, was there for the presentation. Though he has only been with us a few weeks, he already sees his life changing for the better. “I’ve learned how to get ready for interviews, job search. The staff here is incredible.” Anthony already has a few interviews lined up including an area McDonalds. But Anthony’s long term goal is to become a Pastor and help other like himself. He plans on using the tools he’s learning at Covenant House to take him there.
