CHPA provides a basic educational assessment to each youth who requests services. This assessment helps to determine if youth are able to work, receive vocational training, pursue high school or GED classes, or attend college. Once the assessment is complete, staff and youth work together to identify appropriate service referrals for the youth. The staff work closely with each youth to complete any referral forms and to follow up with agencies. CHPA is well connected and collaborates with various educational and vocational programs throughout the Philadelphia area.
CHPA provides a vocational assessment which determines a youth’s work experience and qualifications. The assessment also conducts an activity called Life Maps, which ascertains a youth’s life experiences and goals. Life Maps also help the staff to evaluate supportive services that are necessary and beneficial to the youth. Every youth participates in a job readiness class called Covenant House Orientation in Career Enhancement Skills (CHOICES). CHOICES is a weeklong class that provides youth with job and career information. During the class, youth learn to create resumes, job search, perform on interviews, and other important criteria related to obtaining and sustaining employment. |
